How GLA works

Consider Charlie, he's a Grandad who has a busy schedule and finds it hard to keep track of gifts. He used GLA for a previous event and that went well so he's created a new event for Christmas 24.

Clicking on the Xmas 24 event button will show Charlie who’s invited and who’s accepted. He invited all the family and, so far, most of them have accepted the invite.

There’s a DVD Charlie saw online the other day he'd quite like, so he clicks on his own name to bring up his list page. Here he can see the list he's shared with the rest of the family and the list of things he's keeping private.

He clicks on 'Add new public item' and then enters the details for the DVD he saw, including a weblink to the shop. Then he presses submit to add it to his list.

Then Charlie remembers an idea he had for a present for his son William. So he clicks 'Add a new private item' and enters the details for a rugby jersey.

After pressing submit, Charlie is back on his lists page and he can see both of the items he's just added.

That's all Charlie can think of right now so he logs off. Later that day Charlie's son William logs on and selects the Xmas 24 event. As he’s not an admin for this event he can only see those who’ve accepted invites.

Will clicks on Charlie's name and can see the items on his public list, but only his public list. He's no idea about the rugby top.

Will finds buying presents hard so he’ll take all the help he can get - he clicks 'I’ll get this'. He also knows a cheap DVD site so he can adjust the price level. He then clicks submit.

Back on Will's lists page the DVD entry has been added to his private list so he knows what he needs to get. However Charlie is none the wiser - he won’t find out till Xmas day if he got the DVD - maintaining the surprise but making it a better one as its something he actually wanted. Not more novelty socks..

Even later Charlie's wife Millie logs on and looks at his list - she can see Wills had put name against this item. No point getting the same. But it’s given her and idea for something else and she heads off to add this to her private list for Charlie - he’ll be getting something similiar to what he suggested this year. No more disappointed looks over funky socks.
